The SamT Network financed the conversion of the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) headquarter's building in the capital city of Colombo to solar energy. The conversion to solar power will reap long-term benefits for the organization, saving money and resources that will be invested to benefit the country’s Christian community instead. The conversion will help NCEASL be a more responsible steward of its resources – in accordance with Biblical principles – reducing its carbon emissions and environmental footprint. At a time when international aid has taken a sharp nosedive, SamT Network’s investment in NCEASL is a seed sown in faith toward the growth and development of the evangelical Christian community in Sri Lanka.
The National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) is an ecumenical Christian organization with a membership of over 200 churches, denominations, and organizations representing the evangelical community of the country. It has served Sri Lanka since 1952, with the vision of ‘Unifying the Church to Transform the Nation’. NCEASL fulfills its remit by equipping and empowering the church to achieve its calling, serving evangelical Christians all over Sri Lanka to become catalysts of change, impacting and transforming their communities for the better. It assists pastors and ministry workers with educational and financial initiatives to attain self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods.
NCEASL is also at the forefront of advocating for Freedom of Religion and Belief (FoRB) in Sri Lanka – a Buddhist-majority nation where members of minority religions and ethnicities face discrimination, marginalization, and violence. NCEASL supports vulnerable Christian communities under threat. The organization identifies, documents, and publicizes FoRB violations by state and non-state actors against all religious minorities, but especially the Christian church and community, supporting victims of religious discrimination and violence with financial assistance and legal aid.
